Is buying a gas fire still a smart investment?
March 11th at 12:00am
If you’re considering buying a new fireplace, there’s a good chance you will be keeping a close eye on the fuel type you choose.
One of the most abundant fuel types per appliances available, with an array of spectacular products to choose from, is gas. But with the global focus on reducing C02, and with gas due to be phased out, is it still a sensible investment?
Fortunately, for many people gas is still a sensible option, so it certainly should not be ignored.
Here’s why:
Faber MatriX 450 650 I
The Faber MatriX 450 650 I is a compact front fire with the innovative Log Burner 2.0®
Efficiency rating: A
One of the key points to keep in mind is that whilst gas is being phased out, the UK isn’t expected to achieve zero emissions until 2050. With the average lifespan of a gas fire being 15 years, that means you’ll still get to enjoy entire use of your appliance (and maybe a second one!) before the big switchover.
What’s more, modern gas fires have greatly reduced C02 emissions, and the technology gets better almost every year. That means you don’t have to feel guilty about your purchase; especially if you’re upgrading from an old open fireplace — as you’ll be significantly cutting your carbon footprint.
Maestro 75 Eco Wave
The Maestro 75 Eco Wave is an original front gas fire with a high realistic log stack. Installation with the DRU PowerVent® flue system means Maestro gas fires can be fitted almost anywhere in your home
Efficiency rating: A
Another point to consider is the significant cost to convert your home to make it carbon neutral, with costs generally running between £25,000 and £45,000 — and not forgetting that the conversion itself can negatively impact the environment. Whilst going carbon neutral is certainly the goal for us all, we must move at a pace in keeping with our budgets.
For some, solar may be an option. Again however, there is a big cost barrier that must be overcome before solar can power your home — and even then, it is often not adequetely sufficient at peak times.
Faber MatriX Linear 1050 400 II
The Faber MatriX Linear 1050 400 II is a tasteful, two-sided gas fire with a realistic flame display across the full width
Efficiency rating: A
Due to the above, it is clear why gas for many people is still a wise investment, and certainly not something to be overlooked at this stage.
